Samsung Galaxy Note 3 makes official debut with 5.7-inch 1080p screen and faux-leather back,

Image
Samsung's annual IFA presser is typically its Galaxy Note coming-out party and this year is no different. JK Shin, the Korean company's President and CEO, has just announced the line's latest addition: the Galaxy Note 3. With a renewed emphasis on how it feels in hand, Samsung has built this Note with a faux-leather back, which should go a long way towards silencing critics of the company's former plastic-reliant ways. It also comes pre-loaded with Knox, the company's secure BYOD solution, support for super-fast LTE Category 4, runs Android 4.3 and touts integration with the just announced Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The new Galaxy Note 3 stretches past the dimensions of its predecessor with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen (vs 5.5-inches), 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 or 1.9GHz Exynos Octa CPU, 3GB RAM, weighs 168 grams and comes in three distinct colors -- one of which is pink (!). On the inside, the Note 3's been imbued with a 3,200mAh cell -- hopefully, that's enoug

Gear smartwatch with 1.63-inch AMOLED touchscreen, built-in camera, 70 apps

Image
This week's Galaxy Gear prototype leak didn't leave much to the imagination. Samsung's new wearable was expected to debut with a built-in camera, speakers and a relatively clunky design, all of which are indeed present on the device we're meeting today. But we now have quite a bit more clarity when it comes to functionality and specifications -- the rumored 3-inch display size and 4-megapixel camera resolution, for example, were incorrect. The Gear will instead ship with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 320 x 320. That strap-mounted camera, for its part, is designed to capture low-res shots and 10-second 720p videos, and includes a 1.9-megapixel BSI sensor and an auto-focus lens. The big surprise here is third-party applications support -- there will be a total of 70 partner programs at launch, including sharing apps like Evernote and Path, fitness companions like RunKeeper and MyFitnessPal, and a handful of other offerings, such as TripIt, Line, Viv

Verizon announces first US pre-order date for Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear: September 6th at 9AM ET

Image
The Big Four (that'd be Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T) have all confirmed that they'll be stocking Samsung's newly-introduced Galaxy Gear and Galaxy Note 3, but none of 'em have been bold enough as to give us two precious details: pricing and availability. We're still waiting for the damage, but VZW has come forward and alerted its customers that pre-orders will open up on September 6th. Given that the Note 3 just sailed through the FCC (and that the Gear is due to land in October), we're guessing that you'll have to wait anywhere from one to eight weeks for shipment. Engadget

Cleveland Kidnapper Ariel Castro Found Dead in Jail Cell

Image
Infamous Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro, who was found guilty of kidnapping, torturing, and imprisoning three young women in his home for over a decade, was found dead in his jail cell on Tuesday night. JoEllen Smith, a spokesperson for the facility, confirmed the news, revealing that Castro had hanged himself in his cell.  Castro, who pleaded guilty to 937 counts against him, was held in a cell separate from other inmates for his own protection. He was checked on every 30 minutes, but was not on suicide watch, which would require constant supervision.  Source: abcnews.go.com

Jay Z Allegedly Selling His Nets Ownership to Jason Kidd

Image
Sources told Page Six that Jay Z will allegedly be selling his stake in the Brooklyn Nets ownership to the team's new head coach, Jason Kidd.  Since Jay started his Roc Nation sports agency, he was forced to sell his .067 percent ownership of the team, and apparently other owners of the Nets "urged" him to sell his shares to Kidd. He is allegedly giving up his minor percentage in the team to Kidd for $500,000. Source: nypost.com

KFC Japan Offering Deep Fried Corn Soup

Image
KFC Japan is taking a cue from those crazy deep fried concession stands you normally find at U.S. state fairs (deep fried twinkies, anyone?), and recently announced it'll begin serving "deep fried corn potage fritters," or fried balls of corn soup, available September 5. Corn potage is extremely popular in Japan. RocektNews24 calls it "one of the current darlings of the Japanese palate." So, how exactly do you deep fry soup? A glop of corn potage is covered in batter and then tossed into the deep fryer. Source: huffingtonpost.com

Xbox One game console available on November 22nd  HD

Image
Ready to make a date with a next-gen console? Microsoft's Xbox One goes up for sale on November 22nd, Redmond officially announced this morning. By way of a reminder, the PlayStation 4 will also land in the same month: November 15th for US customers -- just in case you can afford to two-time it. If not, well, we all get to witness the assuredly bloody fight for our hard-earned cash come this holiday. The Xbox One launches in 13 territories initially (UK, Ireland, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, US, CAN, MEX, BRA, AUS, NZ) and costs $499 /€499 / £449 -- Microsoft's calling it a "global" launch, though the list was cut down considerably from initial plans. "Many more markets" will see the console arrive in 2014, a note from Microsoft spokesperson Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb says. The aforementioned territories list notably excludes Japan, a territory traditionally important in the video game market. The console is also in "full production

Touch Idol Alpha's 4.7-inch display and light-up edges

Image
Okay, so we wouldn't go so far as suggesting that Alcatel One Touch's Idol Alpha handset "takes creativity to a new level," but hey, the company's allowed to employ a little hyperbole in its press releases. That particular statement refers to the 4.7-inch handset's translucent edges, which give off light to signify things like charging and notifications. The company's also pretty psyched about the curves on the thing. "You will be attracted from the first glance of the device with its unique and sleek design which stands out from the market," according to Alcatel. The above image likely doesn't do the curvy 7.5 millimeter thick aluminum-framed body justice (nor does it speak to the quad-core 1.2GHz processor inside), so we're holding off such attraction until we actually see one in person. Thankfully, we're already here in Berlin for IFA, so we should be doing just that in the not too distant future. Engadget

Boy, 12, killed in neighbor suspect's possible jealous rampage

Image
A 12-year-old is killed after a gunman drives by and shoots along the front porch. Sunsearae Hall says her son, Kenis Green Jr., was sitting outside their house on Rutherford with other family members. They were all celebrating an uncle's birthday. Hall say a burgundy van down the street, and recognized it as a neighbor's. She also says, she knew that neighbor was trouble, and called for her boyfriend, Gregory Owens. Owens rushed outside and told the kids to come in, but at that moment, the driver began spraying bullets along the front porch. Owens was hit in the stomach, and 12-year-old Green was hit in the head and killed. Other family members barely made it inside. Police have arrested Alvin Conwell, a neighbor of the victims. The family says Conwell recently accused Owens of hitting on his girlfriend. Conwell lives across the street with that girlfriend. Conwell has not been charged yet. Owens is recovering in the hospital, listed in serious condition.

Actor Mike O'Malley will also serve as an executive producer. The show "will focus on two people who make it big after getting out of Philadelphia’s inner city and will chronicle the characters as they try to adjust to that fame along with feelings of guilt for having made it while peers are still struggling," according to Entertainment Weekly. In other King James news, the Miami Heat superstar was under scrutiny last month after he received a police escort to a Jay Z concert in Miami. Source: insidetv.ew.com

Bow Wow Clowns Chris Brown's Boy for Claiming That Jet Life

dn't help but get in one last jab. One more thing -- Wackstar's Instagram account was coincidentally "hacked" soon after his back-and-forth with Bow wow, leading to him deleting the account and starting fresh. Wackstar's new account only has one pic -- him standing in front of the jet with the caption, "Getting ready 2 get on this G5." Source: bossip.com

Former Boxing Champ & 'Rocky V' Star Tommy Morrison Dead at 44

Image
Tommy Morrison, former WBO heavyweight champ who played Tommy "Machine" Gunn in "Rocky V," has passed away at 44 after a long battle with AIDS. Morrison's longtime boxing promoter, Tony Holden, tells TMZ Morrison had been in the hospital for several months battling an illness. He died peacefully with his wife by his side. Morrison first tested positive for the HIV virus back in 1996, effectively ending his boxing career. He would later deny ever having the disease or that it even existed. Morrison starred in "Rocky V" in 1990, and in 1993 he defeated George Foreman for the heavyweight championship. Source: tmz.com

T.I. Denied Entry to the UK for Performance With Lady Gaga

Image
T.I. was set to perform with Lady Gaga as two of the headliners at the iTunes Music Festival this past weekend, but international travel is evidently an issue for the Grand Hustle rapper. Tip was told he couldn't enter the United Kingdom, and subsequently wasn't able to make it for the show. Gaga let the crowd know what was up when their song "Jewels & Drugs" came up. "From across the pond, T.I.! They wouldn't let him into the country, poor thing," yelled Gaga. T.I. ended up rapping his verse by video on stage. The reason why he wasn't allowed to travel has not been released. Source: allhiphop.com

Kim Kardashian Reportedly Wanting to Pose for Playboy Again

Image
Kim Kardashian first posed for Playboy back in 2007, when she still was working her way up to becoming a household name, but in a promo for a new episode of her reality show Kim said she's ready to pose again.  "As soon as I pop this thing out, I want to do Playboy or some au naturale shoot," said the new mother. She gave birth to Kanye West's daughter North in June, but "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" is still airing episodes from her pregnancy.  Since her initial Playboy shoot, Kim has said conflicting things about how she felt about getting nude for the magazine. She told Harper's Bazaar that her mother talked her into it, telling her that she would have the photos to look at when she got older.  Kris told her, "They might never ask you again. Our show isn't on the air yet. No one knows who you are. Do it and you'll have these beautiful pictures to look at when you're my age." However, in 2011 Kim told Glamour that the shoo

Weezy's 'Dedication 5' Sparks Beef Between Pusha T & Jae Millz

Image
It would seem Pusha T is less than enthused about Lil Wayne's latest project, as the Clipse spitter sent out a subliminal tweet soon after "Dedication 5" dropped on Sunday. "I think it's safe to say, you really lost it...," Pusha tweeted. The shot didn't go unanswered, as Young Money rapper Jae Millz quickly responded. "And i think its safe to say, YOU cant fuxk wit me! #CallingYouOut," tweeted Millz. In a later tweet, he threatened to "break up some loud on @Pusha_T #WrathOfCaine mixtape...Lmao." Birdman Makes $85K After Selling Miami Condo

Image
YMCMB head honcho Birdman made a cool $85,000 in the sale of his spare Miami condo for $330,000. The 1,172 square foot condo featured one-bedroom, 2-bathrooms, expansive ocean views, and valet parking.  The spare condo didn't make much sense, seeing as how Baby already owns a palatial 19,000 square foot mansion that he bought for $14 million in 2012.  Source: tmz.com

Lupe Fiasco Accused of Hiding Money for Drug Kingpin

Chicago-born rapper Lupe Fiasco is being sued by the estranged wife of convicted drug kingpin Charles Patton, who is accusing him of hiding money to screw over Inita Patton in her divorce. According to TMZ, she is claiming that Lupe hid nearly $9 million dollars in various accounts, and she believes she has uncovered the money trail.  Patton is currently serving a 44-year sentence for running a heroin enterprise, and his wife is suing to get money she claims is rightfully hers. Lupe's lawyer says that Inita's claims are baseless, adding "There are no secret accounts and no illicit instructions." Source: tmz.com
