Ex-WWE Star Matt Hardy Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Wife

Image
Matt Hardy and his wife, Reby Sky, were both arrested and charged with assault and battery after police were called to a Hampton Inn where they were staying. In the mugshots taken after the arrest, both Hardy and Sky have visible cuts, bruises, scratches. Sky, real name Rebecca Hardy, appears to have a fat lip and black eye as well. TMZ Sports reports that police responded to a 911 call at the Hampton Inn in Emporia, Va., around 5:45 a.m. on New Year's Day. During the call, a hotel employee can be heard saying, “A guest just came down here and said somebody’s beating the hell out of his wife a girl or something.” Police arrived and placed both husband and wife under arrest. They were later released on $3,500 bail. The couple got restraining orders against each other after the altercation, reports TMZ. Source:  hollywoodlife.com

24-Yr-Old Teacher Busted Having Sex With Student 50-60 Times

Image
A 24-year-old teacher from Nebraska is being accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old student. The teacher was arrested Tuesday (Jan. 28th) on suspicion of sexual assault and enticement by electronic communication. The probable cause affidavit says the two routinely exchanged "text messages, graphic photographs and inappropriate conversations." Several of the alleged sexual encounters took place at an abandoned farmstead and were often arranged by cell phones. Because of this, Miller faces more charges in another county. According to the Johnson County Attorney, the possible assault happened in the fall of 2012, but was only recently brought to light as of Jan. 27, 2014. Source:  1011 Now

US phone companies to explore replacing all phone numbers with IP addresses

Image
Voice-over-IP ( VoIP ) is nothing new, of course, but so far it's been regarded merely as an add-on to America's regular, analog-based copper and cellular voice networks -- networks that are currently maintained as a matter of legal requirement. The  FCC  isn't necessarily such a stickler for tradition, however, as it is now encouraging phone networks to explore what would happen if VoIP  replaced  everything else. In other words, how would the system cope if the only phone numbers were Internet Protocol addresses; if even emergency calls were transmitted over the web; and if remote  rural communities  became dependent on VoIP, with no other type of network as a backup? Companies that want to participate in the experiment have until late February to submit their ideas, with approvals expected to be granted as early as March -- but don't fear, the tests will only be permitted in "discrete geographic areas or situations," which is the FCC's way of politely r

PlayStation 4 companion app update highlights live game broadcasts

Image
The latest update for Sony's  PlayStation mobile app  is out for  Android  and  iOS , and it's surprisingly video-focused. Thanks to the new Live from PlayStation section, available game streams can be browsed directly from your device -- although they won't open in the app itself.  Ustream  feeds open in the service's own application (at least on Android), while  T witch.tv streams are relegated to your mobile device's browser. The change log also notes that video notifications from the PS Store are supported, and you'll find them under the What's New section on the home screen. Additionally, the update promises to not pull your  PS4 out of sleep mode when you open the app to, say, accept a friend request or queue a game download -- perfect if you're looking to conserve a little electricity. Canadian spy agency used airport WiFi to track travelers

Image
Questionable data collection  isn't just for the  US  and  Britain  -- according to CBC News,  Canada's own spy agency may have been tracking its citizens illegally too. Documents allegedly provided by Edward Snowden show that Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) collected metadata from thousands of Canadian travelers by tapping into a major airport's free WiFi service. In addition to revealing that the data was collected over a two-week period, the report shows that CSEC was able to use the metadata to digitally follow travelers as their devices passed through other WiFi hotspots in both Canada and the US. CSEC claims that "no Canadian or foreign travelers' movements were 'tracked,'" which technically, might be correct. While the documents explained how the data was collected and what it can be used for, the report doesn't mention any subjects by name. In fact, the documents say the operation was just a test -- a trial run for an ad

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo aims to offer S Pen experience without flagship specs

Image
We've seen the Galaxy Note series get larger  and  larger  as time passes, but this is the first time we've seen the Note actually get  smaller . The Galaxy Note 3 Neo has now been officially unveiled by Samsung Poland and will come in two flavors -- 3G and "LTE+," and the latter offers connectivity on higher-speed Category 4 networks (up to 150 Mbps down/50 Mbps up). The two share a lot of similarities, but there are a couple key differences as well: As you might expect, the LTE+ model is the more specced-out of the pair and offers a  hexa-core  processor consisting of two 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores. The 3G (HSPA+ 21 Mbps) version, on the other hand, will enjoy a quad-core 1.6GHz processor of unknown make. So what's important about the new Neos? Both versions of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean device feature a 5.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED panel with full S Pen capability, which means you'll be able to take advantage of Air Command, S Not

IBM's speedy graphene chip could lead to super-efficient mobile devices

Image
Chips with  graphene inside  are theoretically quicker than plain silicon designs, but they've been slow in practice; the manufacturing process often damages the graphene, stripping away its speed advantage. That won't be a big problem with IBM's  prototype radio receiver , though. The company inserted graphene transistors into the new chip only after it finished assembling the mostly silicon design, keeping the more exotic material intact. The resulting integrated circuit is about 10,000 times more powerful than previous parts, IBM claims. The test unit hasn't done more than send a text message so far, but it could lead to future wireless radios that are both faster and consume less power. If you eventually get a graphene-powered smartphone with great data speeds and a long battery life, you'll know who to thank.   Engadget

Rutgers University Offering Class on Beyonce

Image
Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ is offering a new class called, "Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé," which will use race, gender, and sexual politics to explore the star's career. The course will be taught by PhD student Kevin Allred, who teaches in the school's Department of Women's and Gender Studies.  Allred uses Beyonce videos and lyrics alongside readings from famous Black feminists, writings of bell hooks, Alice Walker, and abolitionist Sojourner Truth. He believes that students should be more critical about pop culture, saying "It's important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they're engaging on a regular basis."  Source:  bossip.com

Man Wearing "Weed" Hat Busted With a Whole Lot of Weed

If your business isn't legal, it's probably best not to advertise it. A Missoula, Montana man wearing a beanie with the word "Weed" on it was pulled over for an improper lane change near La Pine, Ore., on January 24. Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the trooper discovering 6 pounds of marijuana worth $15,000 hidden in the car. Ali Reza Tabibnejad, 32, faces charges of unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance. The investigation remains ongoing. Source:  huffingtonpost.com

Girl Upset Over "Heavy Black Woman" Joining Her Yoga Class

Image
A woman who describes herself as a "skinny White girl," is also a fan of yoga. But according to her, a recent event occurred in her yoga class that left her very, very upset. What could it have been? "There was a new person at yoga, and that person was Black." Posted to Gawker with a headline that could have been pulled from a satire news site, starting with "It Happened To Me: There Are No Black People In My Yoga Classes...," the woman Jen Caron details how a black woman appeared to never have set foot in a yoga studio before and the woman's difficulty with the poses. She describes how it impacted her own practice. "I was completely unable to focus on my practice, instead feeling hyper-aware of my high-waisted bike shorts, my tastefully tacky sports bra, my well-versedness in these poses that I have been in hundreds of times. My skinny white girl body. Surely this woman was noticing all of these things and judging me for them, stereotyping me, re

Porn Actress Wants to Chop Down 23 Men for 23rd Birthday (Pics)

Image
A Canadian adult actress is looking to ring in her 23rd birthday with a bang -- or rather, by banging 23 men. Nearly 500 men answered the call to have sex with Heidi Van Horny for the big day, although the woman is expressing some reservations about going through with it. Van Horny has only been in the business a month. The marathon orgy will be broadcast from a Montreal swingers' club, according to Facebook postings from XXX AD4 Production. The Facebook page invites men to take part while wearing masks during the broadcast. However, Van Horny seemed a little concerned in an interview with QMI agency. "Yes, I still want to do it...yes and no," she said. "I still want to impose my conditions." She wants assurances the men aren't carrying any sexually transmitted diseases. Producer Andre Delaseine says whatever goes down will ultimately be Heidi's decision. "This is not a gang bang that we're doing, it's Heidi who will make the choice," h

La La Gives Carmelo Anthony a Pass to Go to Strip Clubs

Image
Ten years in, La La and Carmelo Anthony appear to be doing well. Althought there have been various rumors that say otherwise, La La insists the two are just fine. In a recent interview with Bravo's Andy Cohen, La La discussed what keeps their relationship strong. Firstly, La La understands that women find her husband irresistible and by now she's used to shutting them down. "They always get too close. I just think that's how some girls can be," La La explained to Bravo's Andy Cohen. "As long as it's respectful, I can deal with it." And though La La is calm and reserved, she knows when it's necessary to step in and put certain women in their place. "There's a line of you going too far," she said about women who try her. "I definitely let them know." In addition to the endless barrage of women ready to throw themselves at Carmelo, La La also understands that her husband takes trips to the strip club. And she doesn't

Burglar Slaps Woman With His Penis During Robbery

Image
An armed robber repeatedly penis-slapped a woman in the face after she refused to hand over cash, police said. Two masked men allegedly knocked on the backdoor of the 31-year-old victim’s Miami home at 3 a.m. Tuesday as she was sleeping. Her father-in-law answered and they forced their way past — demanding he hand over any money in the property. When he said he had none, they kicked down the door to the 31-year-old woman’s bedroom, pointed a gun at her head and screamed abuse. “B—-, where is the money?” one of the men shouted. He then removed his manhood from his pants and used it to hit her in the face. When she again stated she didn’t have any money, the duo stole two TVs valued at $600 before fleeing. Bossip

Justin Bieber Hit With $5k Bill For Herb Smoking in Mansion

Image
So Justin Bieber was recently arrested for DUI in Los Angeles, and shortly after he was arrested for criminal assault in Toronto.  His actions have prompted over 100,000 anti-Bielibers to sign an online petition demanding his deportation, which the Obama administration must now review.  With all of those negative looks, TMZ has reported that Justin has now also been hit with a $5,000 fine for smoking out a Miami mansion he rented out from January 18th to January 25th. He apparently put down a $20,000 security deposit and paid $4,200 a night, to which he was only given back around $15,000 because he and his friends left the house absolutely reeking of marijuana.  The cleaning crew estimate that it will take close to $5,000 in order to rid the home of the smell and repair anything else that was effected during his stay. It's Official, Boosie Will Be Released From Prison in February

Image
As far as Lil Boosie's prison release date goes, there's been a lot of back and forth. Initially it was said that Boosie could be out of prison by August 2014. But then it was revealed that he could actually be released as early as February 16th. Now, according to a report by Miss Info, Boosie's official release date is set for February 13th. Last week, Boosie's verified Twitter page tweeted "#COUNTDOWN" referencing Boosie's release. According to a NOLA article, Boosie has earned himself good behavior on the count of his completion of a substance abuse class and even earning his GED while behind bars. "He has plans to go straight to the studio to begin working on an album as well as his tour," Boosie's brother told NOLA in December, before adding that he will begin touring in "late spring, early summer." The NOLA article also mentions that Lil Boosie could expect supervision on the outside well into 2018. Lil Boosie is currently ser

Bus Driver Fired, Left Child in Freezing School Bus for 6 Hours

Image
A school bus driver in New Jersey has been fired after he left a 3-year-old child unattended in the back of a bus for six hours on Tuesday, January 28th. The son of Mishiloh Akturk had gotten onto the bus for a ride to Franklin Park School at 8 yesterday morning, but never got off until the bus driver returned to the bus to drive students home. The young boy spent six hours in a freezing bus. "I never received a call from the school saying that he didn't show up that day," Akturk told CentralJersey.com. "I got a call at about 2 p.m. saying he sat on the bus all day without heat or food or anything. I guess he fell asleep and was sitting in the back." The bus had a "child reminder system" which sets off an alarm at the back of the bus when a driver turns off the engine. The driver must walk through the bus to turn the alarm off by opening and closing the back door, but instead the driver simply walked around the bus and closed the door from the outside.

Twitter Bashes ATL Mayor for Failed Response to Snowstorm

Image
A snowstorm has struck Atlanta, and its citizens have been left stranded to fend for themselves.  Many people have taken to Twitter to comment on how bad the roads are, as they haven't been taken care up by any emergency response teams.  Some individuals, were forced to abandon their vehicles in the middle of the road and take shelter inside local stores such as CVS among others.  People have tweeted about spending over ten hours stuck in traffic, and apparently the schools have remained open.   Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has been bashed on Twitter as a result of what many feel, was a failed response from the weather conditions by him.  He has gone on to defend himself, stating that he was able to drive around the ATL streets just fine, and instead placed blame on the school systems. Lil Wayne on Richard Sherman: He's Not a Great Player

Image
Lil Wayne is a self-confessed football fanatic, so it's only natural that he shared his thoughts on Seattle Seahawks standout Richard Sherman. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Wayne admitted that he doesn't think Sherman is a "great" player, but says his mind could be changed.  "Well, Richard Sherman comes from the same place I come from, the street, and he's doing a lot of talking where he really can't back it up. I think he's a shutdown player. But a great player? No. Great? I don't think he's a great player. Now if he plays great against Peyton, that will be huge. If he performs tremendously, that will [change things]." The YMCMB superstar also shared his thoughts onSherman's highly publicized NFC post game speech.  "It seems like it used to be Richard Sherman loves to trash talk, but now, it's kind of a technique. Not natural. I've seen people go back at him, and when they tell him something back or he gets his face

Media Calls Jay Z a Bad Husband For Steamy Beyonce Grammy Act

Image
It appears as though the NY Post is contributing to the "Bash Jay Z and Beyonce Campaign, as one of their writers, Naomi Schaeffer Riley, dragged Jay in a recent article shedding negative light on their Grammy performance.  UK media outlet Metro News, published their own article previously, only this one was bashing Beyonce as they called her a "whore" many times in their writeup.  This time around Ms. Riley took aim at Jay Z, calling him a "poor excuse for a husband," for being comfortable with Beyonce putting on such a sensual act for the opening performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Her article stated: "For years, these award ceremonies have pushed the envelope; Beyoncé's booty-shaking was certainly no worse than Miley Cyrus's twerking or any number of other performances by Madonna, for instance. But there's something particularly icky about doing it while your husband looks on approvingly. "'Honestly, I didn't want to watch

Man beaten, carjacked by people he thought needed help

Image
This isn't the first time the victim has helped someone in need, but this may be the last time after he was beaten and carjacked while helping someone he thought was a stranded female driver on the side of the road. Pictures show injuries  the 35-year-old man suffered while helping a driver. The woman flagged him down on Grand River Avenue near the Southfield Freeway just after 3 a.m. Sunday. "I'm just glad that they didn't shoot him," said the victim's mother. "Because I could have been planning for his funeral. If you know my son, he will help anybody, regardless of what race or whatever. He'll stop, he'll help you." After he pulled his '76 Cadillac Eldorado over in front of her dark gray Lincoln Town & Country to give her a jump, a man hopped out and asked him how much money he had on him. When the victim reached into his pockets, the man hit him repeatedly with a shotgun and forced him in his Eldorado. They took him on a ride. Whi

AT&T is veering away from subsidized phones, and it's paying off

Image
The wireless industry in the United States is in the midst of some rather significant changes. Ever since T-Mobile implemented its Jump program early last year, the carrier has turned subscriber loss into massive gains. The company's success is rubbing off, too. AT&T's Next  program is very similar to Jump, which lets customers pay off their phones in monthly installments and become eligible for upgrades earlier, and is just one example of a major transformation taking place throughout the industry. According to AT&T's  earnings report , the company saw more than 1 million Next sales, which accounted for 15 percent of all smartphones sold in the quarter. AT&T CFO John Stephens elaborated in today's investor call, saying that Next accounted for 20 percent of total sales in December alone. This doesn't sound like much right now, but the big picture shows a different story. Next is actually growing at an incredibly fast pace, and it's unlikely that AT&a

Chrome apps will soon arrive on Android and iOS devices

Image
Last month, we discovered Google was working on a tool  that would port Chrome apps  to both Android and iOS. Today, the folks in Mountain View released a developer preview that does just that. Like the early rumblings suggested, it's based on open-source Apache Cordova, which leverages the software's native HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This means that the software will get wrapped in the stylings of a native app and can be submitted to each app store for distribution. There's also a slew of Chrome APIs available that you'd expect to see in mobile apps, including the ability to build in payments, notifications and alarms on top of those offered by the Cordova platform. Now that the tools are in the hands of  devs , we'll have to bide our time until the finished Chrome apps begin to surface. Engadget

TV stations try sharing their airwaves to make room for 4G traffic

Image
TV stations selling spectrum in the FCC's  upcoming wireless auction  may soon have a viable alternative to moving or shutting down their channels. Two Los Angeles broadcasters, KJLA and KLCS, have agreed to participate in a  CTIA -backed pilot project  that will test whether or not they can share airspace without interference. If the trial is successful, stations will have much more incentive to give up their frequencies for the sake of phone carriers eager for 4G bandwidth -- networks will get to both keep their channels as well as reduce their operating costs in the process. Cellular providers will have to wait patiently for results, though, as the trial will run through the first quarter of the year.

Verizon LTE now available in 35 NYC subway stations

Image
Many commuters  around the world take underground connectivity for granted at this point, but New Yorkers are still disconnected more often than not while riding the subway, or even just waiting for a train. Now, thanks to Transit Wireless , Verizon customers can surf the web via LTE in 35 Manhattan subway stations. Platforms for select trains are now online, with most of the participating stations located on the city's west side, including Times Square and Columbus Circle. Service is notably absent at Penn Station and Grand Central, though that latter hub is slated to get LTE soon, when 40 additional stations come online as part of the next installation phase. AT&T adds 1.2 million smartphones to its network, account for 93% of postpaid sales

Image
AT&T had a pretty good fourth quarter by pretty much every metric you can imagine. Revenues are up, subscriptions are up and the company added 1.2 million smartphones to its network. Those massive smartphone sales show that the market is continuing to accelerate, even as it nears saturation. And those sales probably won't start to significantly drop off until AT&T finishes transitioning its customers to  LTE . Currently, just over half of its smartphone customers are on the higher speed network. Smartphones account for 93 percent of AT&T's postpaid sales, and while the company added 566,000 postpaid subscribers during the quarter, prepaid customers declined by 32,000. Still, that drop is but a pittance for a company that has 110 million total customers on its wireless books. And its  Next  program seems to be off to a solid start as it attracted 1 million customers and accounted for 15 percent of postpaid upgrades. U-Verse also saw slow, but  steady growth  as it ad

Nintendo reportedly planning mini-games and content for its biggest rival: the smartphone

Image
Japanese newspaper Nikkei has a generally good record for getting the scoop on Nintendo, and this one could be pretty important. According to  this report , Nintendo will announce plans to create "progressive" content for smartphones -- the very devices that many reckon is chipping away at the company's casual gaming audience. We won't be seeing a full-length iteration of a  Zelda  title, but it could include background stories (video content is mentioned), offer a tour of in-game worlds and ( least  interestingly) the very latest news on retail games headed to Nintendo's own hardware. Mini-games would introduce new characters and, as Nintendo has apparently told it to Nikkei, would be free to try, at least for a short period. The report adds that Nintendo will hold off on paid-for games and in-app purchase, instead hoping that its smart device morsels would whet the appetite for full-version -- full-price -- console game purchases. CEO Satoru Iwata had already  m

Smartphone sales may have topped 1 billion in 2013, depending on who you ask

Image
You once had to look to the  broader cellphone market  to see more than a billion phones ship in one year. Well, times have changed... at least, if you ask the right analysts. IDC now estimates  that smartphone shipments topped one billion for the first time in 2013. However, Strategy Analytics  begs to differ  -- it reckons that shipments fell just short, at 990 million. Whether or not the industry hit its symbolic milestone, the roughly 40 percent increase over 2012 data shows that the smartphone market had plenty of room to grow last year. Samsung led the pack with 31.3 percent of the the market, while Apple dipped to 15.3 percent as both Samsung and Chinese manufacturers (including Huawei and Lenovo) chipped away at its second-place position. As for what happened in the fourth quarter? Both analyst groups say that Samsung was once again the top vendor, although they note that the Korean firm's share was largely flat at 29 percent. Not that Apple fared any better, as its  record

Twitter update now lets you crop, rotate photos on Android

Image
Love sharing photos on  Twitter ? If you're an  Android  user, it just got a little easier. The microblogging service's latest app update adds a simple photo-editor that allows users to crop and rotate images without the aid of a third-party program. It also flashes a reminder to @mention friends whenever you upload pics with people in it, emulating Facebook's photo-tagging feature. Pulling down on the timeline reveals other new features: if there aren't any tweets to load, the app will show recommended tweets, trending topics and will suggest users to follow. In the US, that list also includes news, sports, TV and events updates. While these new additions to the Twitter feed are only available for Android right now, the company promises that they'll soon arrive  on iOS . Engadget

Mom Pleads Guilty, Sells Children as Sex Slaves to Pedophile

Image
A Gary, Indiana woman admitted this week that she sold a baby eight times to a Gary man for sex and was in the room for all the meetings except for the last one. Authorities said Natasha Hillard agreed to meet Christopher Bour at her home after meeting him through a dating service, and he asked her about two children she had access to. Both girls, ages 4 months and 3 years old at the time. According to investigators Christopher Bour paid her eight times for sexual encounters with a child between September 2011 and February 2013. Hillard admitted that she could be seen in images found on Bour's computer showing him "sexually touching the child." Natasha Hillard told investigators that she was present in the room for all of the encounters except the last one, when "Bour paid extra to be alone with the child." Hillard explained that she agreed to sell the children to Bour because she needed the money, but she didn't know whether he had shared photos of the enco

Newest NERF blaster has baked in camera for capturing your foam firefights

Image
Honestly, who cares about CES? It's always the same parade of TVs and in-dash infotainment systems that only a very small portion of the population is going to buy. The good stuff -- the really  good stuff -- is at  Toy Fair . Every year, Hasbro brings its  A-game  to the convention, and 2014 is no different. The event itself is still a few weeks away, but the company's reps were kind enough to swing by Fort Engadget ahead of time with a prototype of their big-ticket item for the year, the (deep breath) N-Strike Elite NERF Cam ECS-12 Blaster (phew...). While we can't say we're enamored with the name, we are pretty stoked about the blaster itself. The concept is simple, so simple in fact we can't believe Hasbro hasn't thought of it before. The ECS-12 is your standard, semi-auto NERF blaster with a small camera mounted on the barrel and a tiny screen on the stock. The screen does allow you to line up your crosshairs on a target, even while taking cover, but more i

Microsoft changes SkyDrive's name to OneDrive

Microsoft had little choice but to relabel its SkyDrive cloud service after losing a trademark dispute with BSkyB , and it's now ready to make that name switch. The newly rebadged  OneDrive  is functionally identical for existing SkyDrive users, who can go about business as usual. However, there are also promises that this is more than just a cosmetic change. Microsoft isn't saying exactly what users can expect, but it won't hurt to sign up.

Google and Samsung agree to license each other's patents for 10 years

Image
It's no secret that Google and Samsung need each other given that Samsung dominates Android device sales . It only makes sense, then, that the two companies have just  struck a deal  to license each other's patents for the next 10 years. In addition to accelerating product research, the agreement should reduce the chances for future  patent lawsuits . The move suggests that Samsung isn't keen on burning any bridges -- even if it starts drifting  away from Android , it should remain in Google's good books. Engadget

Michelle Williams Red Faced Over Beyonce's Sexual New Album

Image
Michelle Williams may have sang about being "Bootylicious" with Destiny's Child, but she admitted to being a little embarrassed after listening to Beyonce's latest self-titled album. She opened up to US Weekly on the red carpet at the 5th Annual Essence Black Women, and shared her thoughts on hearing the lyrics for the first time.  "I was telling someone on the way here how I was laughing. I don't know if it's laughter of shyness or embarrassment because the makeup artist and everyone was listening to her say these things, and I'm like, 'That's private girl.'" She added, "We aren't supposed to know all that. But she is married and has produced a baby, and we know what you have to do to produce a baby so, okay!" Source: huffingtonpost.com
