Kyocera's entry-level Hydro Wave lands on T-Mobile and MetroPCS priced at $149.99

Kyocera has just announced a new entry-level Android smartphone, the Hydro Wave. The smartphone will be available in the US over at T-Mobile and MetroPCS, T-Mobile's prepaid subsidiary.

The handset comes with pretty basic hardware, such as 5-inch display running a resolution of 540 by 960 pixels at a PPI of 220, a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of integrated storage space, as well as 2300mAh battery. Other specs include a microSD card slot, a 5MP primary camera with LED flash, and a 2MP secondary sensor on the front. The Kyocera Hydro Wave also comes with support for LTE connectivity.

As far as the build is concerned, the Hydro Wave doesn't impress with its design curves, although it does integrate both protection against water/dust as well as moderate ruggedness, two features which are rarely available on entry-level handsets

On the software side, the Kyocera Hydro Wave comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, although the manufacturer has also included a proprietary software that can transform the look and feel of the user interface to match that of feature phones.

Judging on the spec sheet, the Kyocera Hydro Wave is a basic entry-level device. However, at a price of $149.99 sans contract, the handset could turn out to be a decent solution for customers on the lookout for a cheap Android smartphone that also integrates LTE support. The Hydro Wave is already available in T-Mobile stores starting today, and the phone will also be launched with MetroPCS on July 27.
