PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - A 26-year-old Pontiac woman is under investigation for severely burning her 1-year-old son with scalding water. The child is still in critical, but stable condition at this time while his mother, Carmen Ann Smith-Portee, was arrested after admitting to doing it on purpose. The incident happened on May 19 when the child was treated for burns to his arm, back and forehead by EMS workers responding to the incident in the 100 block of Apple Lane. The victim was initially transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was referred to the Detroit Children's Hospital's Burn Unit for further medical treatment. The mother of three originally told police that she had run hot water in the bathtub but left the boy in a separate room while she gathered cleaning supplied. A woman from Fayetteville, North Carolina has been "accused of making unwanted advances on the cable guy," WTVD reports. Mildred Newsome, aged 47, is now facing charges of sexual battery and second-degree forced sexual offense. Police said the sexual acts were performed without his consent. The technician left the job and reported Newsome right away. In response, the Fayetteville Police Department released a message for anyone who may find themselves in an uncomfortable sexual situation. OAK PARK, Mich. - A fight broke out on a DDOT bus that was on 8 Mile and Coolidge Highway in Oak Park. ADVERTISEMENT Two men were fighting when one man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other, police said. The man got off the bus and tried to flee, but was caught and taken into custody by Oak Park police on the Detroit side of 8 Mile Road, just east of Schaefer Highway, police said. According to reports, Beyonce recently purchased a rather large church in New Orleans. The church is said to be about 7,500 square feet. Although it is unclear how much she actually paid, the facility was listed at $850,000. The church was reportedly built in the early 1900s. It has not been in use in recent years due to a number of it's members passing away. On Friday night, authorities say an ambulance was called Bill Russell's Seattle area home because he was having heart trouble. He was then taken to a hospital nearby. TMZ reported the 84-year-old Celtics legend was experiencing heart trouble and shortness of breath. At first, one of Russell's representatives told TMZ he was kept overnight for observation because he had been dehydrated. Shortly after, Russell got on Twitter, saying he was only there to treat the dehydration, while not mentioning any possible heart issue. "Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts. On Friday (May 18), former Playboy centerfold Stephanie Adams tragically jumped to her death with her 7-year-old son from the 25th floor of a Manhattan hotel. Adams died amidst a custody battle with the father of the young boy. Adams reportedly checked into the Gotham Hotel with her son Vincent on Thursday, May 17 at 6 pm, as told by police during a news conference. They fell 23 floors and were found on a second-floor balcony at about 8:15 am Friday morning in the back of the hotel’s courtyard. According to reports, the Santa Fe High School shooter, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, stated in an affidavit that he spared the lives of those students he liked "so he could have his story told." Reports also state that Pagourtzis wrote extensively about wanting to "commit the shooting" in journals and notes on his cell phone. His ex-girlfriend was among those shot, though, her current status remains unclear at the moment. The affidavit also outlined Pagourtzis attire at the time of the shooting (draped in a trench coat) and carrying a Remington 870 and a .38 caliber pistol. Until 2018, there had been no queer representation in the George Lucas-created universe, that is until "Solo: A Star Wars Story". In the wake of the horrific mass shooting Santa Fe High School in Texas, it has been confirmed by Texas hospitals that a total of eight students have been killed at the hands of a lone gunman while 12 have been injured. The triggerman has since been brought into custody today (May 18). Santa Fe Independent School District has confirmed the injuries of the 12 students by an “active shooter” on their official Facebook page according to TIME. Since then, they stated that the situation has since been “contained” by local law enforcement. The Houston Chronicle has reported that Santa Fe High School Assistant Principal Cris Richardson informed them that a yet-to-be-named gunman has been “arrested and secured.” The Chronicle, along with KHOU-TV revealed that eight students have died in the shooting via local law enforcement. It's a good day for sports fans who enjoy betting (but maybe a bad day for Vegas). The Supreme Court struck down a 1992 federal law that banned commercial sports betting in most states. States can now decide how they will govern sports-related gambling. The ban, called the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, was created to help maintain the integrity of sports, but the Supreme Court found the law to be violating state's rights. The first states where legalized sports gambling is expected to take place are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, West Virginia and Mississippi. New Jersey had long anticipated this judgement, and repealed its laws against sports betting while creating a proposed bill that is already in place.
