British resident Nicolette Watkinson was surfing the web when she found out her husband married a teenager in Africa.
According to the Daily Mail, Stephen Smith, 52, married Awa Jobarteh, 19, in Gambia, Africa. Not only was he still married to his wife, but it was the same place they tied the knot 7 years ago. The two were at a rocky point in their marriage when she decided that they should get a divorce. It was then that Smith disappeared and left her mortgage payments adding up to $160,000, which is $260,000 in US dollars.
In court documents, Smith claims that he signed divorce papers before marrying Awa, but claims that he was duped by her when she disappeared two days after they got hitched. On Thursday Smith was sentenced to 6 months in jail suspended for two years and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.
