Beats By Dre Cost $14 to Make, Rank Near Last in Sound Quality

It's no secret that electronics typically cost significantly less to make than what their retailed for. PCMag reports it costs around $200 to make an iPhone 4S and they typically retail for upwards of $400.

Well the uber famous Beats By Dre line is no exception to this rule. According to aNew York Times article, headphone designers estimate "the cost of making a fancy headset is as low as $14." With Beats headphones starting at around $250, that's nearly a 1700% increase going back to the company.

To add insult to injury Time Magazine ranked a list of competing headphone lines and Beats came in second to last. The worst quality of those compared went to Plantronics, makers of dreadful bluetooth earpieces, and both Apple earpods and Skull Candy earphones ranked higher.

Aside from that Beats has a 27% market share in the headphone industry, their marketing is next level, but at the end of the day it's all subjective. Do you guys have Beats and if so how do you like them in comparison to other headphones you've used?
