Tyrese Rants After Acting Chops Critiqued For Green Lantern Role

Tyrese had a few words for critics who believe he isn't a strong enough actor to play the first black DC Comics superhero, Green Lantern.
In an open letter to the editors of Forbes via his Instagram page, the actor went on to list his serious acting roles along with his franchised flicks, The Fast & The Furious and the Transformer series.
Benjamin Moore, a contributor for Forbes' site wrote the op-ed, "Tyrese Gibson Should Not Be Warner Bros.' New Green Lantern" suggesting that Tyrese's charming persona wouldn't be a fit for the character John Stewart.
Moore gives Tyrese credit for his successful franchise flicks, but states since his origins derive from singing, his range in the art is limited. He also said the character would turn comical or become a watered down version of Robert Downey Jr.'s take on John Stark in the Iron Man franchise.
Tyrese informed critics in his Instagram rant that it was in fact fans who campaigned for him to play the role. After fan fiction pieces and art work was shared online, a petition followed.
"Do your research I was at home innocent it's the FANS who started the "Tyrese Green Lantern Campaign" so again do your research bro...NOT just write a whole article based on movies that I've done that in your mind are "popular"" he said. "All dramatic roles... Baby Boy? Four Brothers,? Waist Deep..? Black Nativity.? Annapolis? I've actually done more dramatic roles and movies than anything comedic - or charming."
The actor has met with Warner Bros. to discuss the role but hasn't released any new information about the process.
Diversity in the comic universe has been reignited in Hollywood as Chadwick Boseman was chosen to play the Black Panther in the upcoming Marvel film last year. Selma director Ava Duvernay has also been rumored to direct the film.
