All Eyez On Me Exceeds Expectations and Earns $31M in Opening Weekend
It is projected that the numbers roll in the All Eyez On Me 2Pac biopic will have exceeded opening weekend expectations with a $31.2 million box office draw.
Initial projections figured that the Lionsgate/Codeblack Films production would make something in the range of $15-$22 million, but that all changed when it registered $12.9 million on its opening day. Several factors are believed to have accounted for the spike in moviegoers, including the film's release coinciding with Pac's birthday. The Benny Boom directorial feature opened up in 2,471 theaters nationwide on Friday, June 16.
Despite its success, All Eyez On Me faces an uphill battle to maintain the pace it is going at. On Saturday it only pulled in $7.7 million, which is a 40% dip from what it opened doing. Thus far the movie has been the recipient of mixed reviews, with a rating that stands at 40 of 100 on Metacritic and 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.
