White House Backs Away from Promise of Trump Donating $1M of His Money

Earlier this week, we reported that Donald Trump planned on donating $1 million of his own money toward relief efforts from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Trump was part of a slew of other celebrities who generously donated after Harvey saw that floods rose to as high as 15 feet and killing at least 40.
On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters she hadn't 'had a chance' to ask the President if his donation would be from his personal account or via the Trump Foundation. This is a complete backtrack from yesterday when the White House assured reporters that the donation would come from his 'personal money'. If Trump chooses to use his own money, it would represent a break from his previous actions in recent years, when he made donations to his own Trump Foundation. Trump did, however, donate to $10,000 of his personal money to the Police Athletic League of New York City, in 2009.
