Dwight Howard Scores 30 Points And Grabs 30 Rebounds

Hornets center Dwight Howard made history on Wednesday night (March 21) by becoming the 10th player to record 30 points and 30 rebounds in a game since the statistic received its own column in the books in 1963.
Howard had 11 offensive rebounds and 19 defensive rebounds to go along with a total of 32 points in the 111-105 win. It was an outcome that seemed unlikely following a dismal first half that saw Charlotte's big man contribute only four of the points his team put up while trailing 62-43. Not until he received a wake-up call from a friend who hit him up during the break did he shake the cobwebs off to make way for a dominant finish, according to Howard.
“I just thought that my energy and effort wasn’t where it needed to be for our team to be successful,” he told reporters after the game. “Got a text at halftime from somebody and it kind of got me motivated and gave me some extra energy.”
There was a time when 30/30 nights weren't all that uncommon, but those days expired after the sport caught up with the awe-inspiring play of Wilt Chamberlain, who accomplished the feat 124 times over the course of his career (Elias Sports Bureau). Since then it has gotten rarer by the decade to see, with Kevin Love last reaching the double-double mark in 2010.
