Man Sets Woman on Fire & Abandons Baby When Asked for Paternity Test
A Phoenix man is being charged with first-degree murder after allegedly admitting to killing his ex-girlfriend and setting her body on fire after she asked him to take a paternity test. Antwaun Ware is currently held on $1 million bond in the death of 21-year-old Jasmine Dunbar.
According to the police report, around 10 p.m. on March 3, police found an infant girl alone in a car seat on the side of the road. Police found a shoe, a diaper bag, and a wallet with Dunbar's ID in it inside the car.
When police contacted Dunbar's godmother, she told them Dunbar informed her earlier in the day she was taking Ware to get a paternity test. Phoenix police Sgt. Jonathan Howard said the paternity of the child was "in question."
Ware "admitted he had a physical altercation with Jasmine and punched her a number of times with his fist," police said in a statement.
He said he dropped the baby girl off near his girlfriend's house where he thought people would see her and take care of her. When he left, he allegedly returned to Dunbar and used gasoline to set her body on fire.
Police used cell phone records to locate where Ware's phone had been and came across a partially burned body they believe is Dunbar's.
Ware is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of abandonment of a body and one count of child abuse.
