Many have speculated what Barack Obama would do after his departure from the White House, and the former commander-in-chief revealed that if given a chance he would take his talents to the hardcourt.
According to the San Antonio Current, during an appearance at the MIT Sports Analytics Conference, when asked what team he would play for if he were a free agent this offseason, Obama chose the San Antonio Spurs.
"They're smart, they're well-run, they're focused on team," Obama said. “They treat everybody in the organization with respect, and that is the kind of organization that I want to be a part of. So I would say over the last 15 years in basketball, San Antonio would be a great example of that."
This is far from the first-time Obama has given praise to the Spurs. Back in 2015, when the Spurs visited the white house to celebrate their 2014 NBA title, Obama called the team “ a great metaphor for what America should be all about" due in part to the togetherness the team played with on the court.
According to Bay Area News Group’s Melissa Rohlin, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich responded to Obama’s interest by saying he was flattered and then jokingly said he’d run “a background check on him.”
