Spurs Will Reportedly Offer Kawhi Leonard $219M Supermax Contract

In spite of a 2017-18 season that saw relations between the Spurs organization and Kawhi Leonard further sour, San Antonio is reportedly putting a deal together that would entice their franchise player to make himself comfortable in the only uniform he's worn since entering the league in 2011.

With the NBA postseason only weeks away from coming to its conclusion, teams have been rubbing their mittens over word that GM R. C. Buford and Spurs head coach/president Gregg Popovich might be open to parting with the 26-year-old superstar in a blockbuster trade.

According to sources who've been in contact with the San Antonio Express-News, Pop and his people are prepared to make a strong push to salvage the promise they once had with Leonard with a $219 million supermax contract offer that would keep him in the city for at least five more years.

After playing in a career-low nine games, Leonard was shut down indefinitely so that he could rehab a quadriceps injury that he's long been plagued by. Before long, Leonard's absence from play became a point of contention due to his refusal to travel and stick close with the team. Those tensions were further exasperated when it became clear that he wouldn't join the Spurs for their run in the playoffs.
