Saweetie Says Men Should Be Sent 'Back to the Streets' If They Don't Buy a Birkin
Saweetie sparked a lot of debate after delivering some relationship advice during a recent Instagram Live session. During the live session with Quavo, Saweetie encouraged women to dump their man if he wasn't paying their bills or buying them a Hermès Birkin bag.
"If he not getting you a Birkin, if he not paying for your bills, then throw that n**** back to the streets," Saweetie said as Quavo shrugged.
The message could have been a plug for her new single with Jhene Aiko, titled "Back to the Streets." However, the comment received mixed reactions. While some took Saweetie's statement literally and felt men shouldn't be pressured to buy a luxury item that costs at least $10,000, others felt like the message should be viewed as being adaptable for one's personal circumstances.
"I swear.. Moneybagg yo / Ari ... Lil Baby / Jayda ... Quavo /Saweetie... [relationships] on shaderoom got basic broke h*** thinking they suppose to get designer bags and cars too. Hell na... Ari Jayda and Saweetie rich... yall h*** broke asf.." DJ Akademiks wrote on Twitter.
While artists like YK Osiris agreed with Saweetie, others like Safaree believe that a Birkin bag is meant for serious relationships.
"Birkins are for serious relationships," Safaree wrote on Twitter. "Not a talk to me give me attention we only went on 5 dates Gift. Put that work in and you get a Birkin!! Put no work In ya a** going to Burlington."
Floyd Mayweather's daughter Yaya even chimed in the recent Birkin bag trend and stated her theory that many of the Hermès bags being displayed on social media are probably fake due to how difficult it is to acquire an authentic Birkin bag.
"Wait a minute... this is getting out of hand," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "I'm starting to see too many people on this app with Birkins like [they're] just some regular bags that you can go buy. Some of these Birkins gotta be fake and I'm not saying everybody's is fake. I'm not trying to be funny but let's make [some things] crystal clear. For one, you can't just walk into an Hermès store and buy a Birkin. You have to be like a member in order to buy them. Two even if you are a member you can only buy so many a year (and because of this [this] is why my dad sometimes goes overseas to purchase them)."
