NBA Players Association Approves 2020-21 Season Start, Tip-Off Set for Dec. 22

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the NBPA has tentatively approved the proposed 2020-21 season start which kicks off on Dec. 22. The Players Association voted on Thursday to proceed with the 72-game format. However, Charania reported that the league is still ironing out the details for health and safety protocols, in addition to amending the existing collective bargaining agreement.

The NBPA said in a statement released late Thursday, "The Board of Player Representative of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has tentatively approved a start date of December 22, 2020 for the 2020-2021 NBA season and a 72-game schedule."

"Additional details remain to be negotiated and the NBPA is confident that the parties will reach agreement on these remaining issues relevant to the upcoming season," the statement continued.
