Anthony Davis & the LA Lakers Finalizing 5 Year Max Deal Worth $190 Million

The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis are finalizing a five-year, $190 million maximum contract, according to Davis' agent Rich Paul. Paul added that the deal includes an early-termination option after Davis' fourth year.

AD's deal comes after LeBron signed a two-year extension with the Lakers. In their first year together, LeBron and Davis won an NBA title. This past season saw AD become an All-Star for the seventh time and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting to Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is rumored to be seeking a move to the Lakers as well.

Davis is entering his prime at 27-years-old and is considered the centerpiece of the team's long-term plans.

"We don't just look at this at all as a one or two-year window," said Lakers GM and VP of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka. "We want to stay competitive for the long term and make decisions that allow us to do just that and not just shoot all of our bullets to try and defend for one year. We want to be in [the] position of being a sustainable contender."

Davis is expected to sign the contract as early as Thursday.
