U.S. Capitol Officer Reportedly Commits Suicide Days After Capitol Hill Riots

According to reports, news was revealed noting that another Capitol police officer died this week following the riot that went down at the Capitol building this past week. Capitol police officer Howard Liebengood died after reportedly committing suicide.

The department where Liebengood worked issued a statement, saying "He was assigned to the Senate Division, and has been with the Department since April 2005. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. We ask that his family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.”

News of this comes after it was noted that Capitol officer Brian Sicknick died from injuries that were sustained during the insurrection. Liebengood was assigned to the Senate Division according to reports, and was present when the riots started this week. The 51-year-old officer took his own life while off-duty this past Saturday. Since the riots occurred, Capitol police chief Steven Sund has resigned from his position, effective on January 16. Stay tuned for more updates on this matter.
