Former WWE superstar Tyler Reks came out as transgender, announcing, "This is me. Unashamed, unabashedly me." Born Gabe Tuft, Gabbi Tuft revealed her gender transformation yesterday on Instagram after struggling emotionally for the previous eight months.
"This is the side of me that has hidden in the shadows, afraid and fearful of what the world would think; afraid of what my family, friends, and followers would say or do," Tuft wrote. "I am no longer afraid and I am no longer fearful. I can now say with confidence, that I love myself for WHO I am."
After revealing that the emotional turmoil of her identity "almost ended" her on multiple occasions, she thanked her wife and loved ones for their support.
"My loving wife, family, and closest friends have accepted me for who I am," she continued. "To them, I am forever grateful. Your support along the way means more than you will ever know."
During an interview with Extra, Tuft revealed that he would sneak into his mother's closet and try on her clothes as a child. She added that due to her transition, she and her wife of nearly 20 years, with who she has a nine-year-old daughter, have not been sexually active but have discovered a new part of their relationship.
Tuft promised in her Instagram post that she will be "transparent and truthful" with her journey and expressed a desire to be a role model to other transgenders who may be struggling.
Tuft last performed for the WWE in 2012 after debuting in 2010.
