Lawmakers Reportedly Move to Stop Creditors From Taking Stimulus Checks
The Biden administration has made it clear that stimulus checks will be going out, as soon as this weekend. While the news has gotten positive responses, there have also been looming concerns about debt collectors taking people’s stimulus checks. Now, lawmakers are reportedly moving to stop the action of people’s stimulus check being taken.
A spokesperson for Senator Ron Wyden issued a statement on the matter, saying a plan is being introduced that can protect stimulus check payments from being garnished as soon as this week. It was noted that if a corporation has a judgment against the person in debt which allows their bank account to be garnished, their stimulus check may not be exempt from being taken. As of now, people have begun receiving their $1,400 stimulus check despite the pending drop for this weekend.
