Los Angeles Lakers Players Were Reportedly Texting During Games in Front of Frank Vogel
For the Los Angeles Lakers, it appears as though their regular season has ended in just as dramatic of a fashion as it began. Gone are the team's championship aspirations, as they failed to qualify for the league's play-in tournament, after being declared the odds on favorites to win it all back in October.
Reality has set in for the most winningest franchise in the history of the NBA. Their newly assembled big three (featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook) became an unmitigated disaster less than halfway through the season and the two head coaches that they passed on (Tyronn Lue and Jason Kidd) are flourishing with the franchises that decided to hire them. Now, to add insult to injury, it's been reported from sources within the organization that the Lakers' players were texting on their phones, during regular-season games this year. Some players even had the brazen audacity to text while their head coach, Frank Vogel, was standing directly in front of them -- an act that seemed to have a trickle-down effect on the team's everyday employees and Vogel's ability to command respect in the team's locker room.
“I couldn’t believe it. And later when we met up, he said he wasn’t the only motherf***** texting other people,” said an anonymous Laker's employee to Heavy. “He said it was nothing against Vogel. The players liked Frank and thought he knew what he was doing. They saw him as a good guy and a good basketball guy, but Frank had been marginalized too much. The Rambis component, the LeBron checking out component — it all served to sort of undermine Frank Vogel.”
Frank Vogel is expected to be officially fired by the Los Angeles Lakers' front office and shocking stories such as these undoubtedly contributed to his demise, less than two years removed from guiding the team to its 17th championship back in 2020.
