Brooklyn Nets to Target Suspended Celtics Coach Ime Uoka After Firing Steve Nash

On October 20, 2020, Kyrie Irving famously said this regarding the Nets' hiring of Steve Nash as their new head coach " I think it’s also going to change the way we see coaches. I don’t really see us having a head coach. You know what I mean? KD could be a head coach. I could be a head coach.” Today is eerily close to being the two-year anniversary of the infamous comment that Kyrie Irving made about the relevancy of Steve Nash's head coaching role within the Brooklyn Nets organization while outlining the importance of himself and his teammate, Kevin Durant. Steve Nash was fired by the Brooklyn Nets' general manager, Sean Marks, today after boasting a 92-60 regular season record for the team from 2020 to 2022. The transaction comes amid an embarrassing 0-4 sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics last year in the NBA playoffs and a less than stellar 2-5 start during the 2022-2023 NBA regular season.

Ime Udoka, was Steve Nash's top assistant coach during his inaugural season (2020-2021) as the Nets' play-caller. Although he's been suspended from the Boston Celtics for engaging in misconduct with a co-worker, his employers have indicated that his services could be available for the right compensation package. The Nets are rumored to be highly interested in reacquiring Ime Udoka for the coaching ranks. But, if he is hired, he will be inheriting a tumultuous locker room that features championship-contending talent.
