Universal Pictures is Developing a Biopic About Snoop Dogg, Allen Hughes Will Direct
According to reports, legendary West Coast rap veteran Snoop Dogg has a biopic in the works. The feature film is said to be in its pre-production phase, and it is being developed by the same Hollywood studio that presented the public with Straight Outta Compton back in 2015. While a title for the upcoming film has not been revealed as of yet, fans of urban American films will see a very familiar face when the credits roll. Allen Hughes, the co-director of the cult-classic Menace II Society, is set to lead the charge, while the Emmy-nominated screenwriter, Joe Robert Cole, will co-write the script with Snoop Dogg.
Snoop Dogg's debut album, Doggystyle, was released back in 1993, and it is considered one of the greatest rap albums of all time. The LP came one year after Snoop Dogg made several significant guest appearances on The Chronic by Dr. Dre. Both albums are considered highly influential in pop culture, Black culture, and cannabis culture. Snoop Dogg's rise to prominence occurred during a pivotal right before the East Coast vs. West Coast beef began. That was nearly 29 years ago, today, Snoop Dogg is a rap pioneer, one of the most popular celebrities in the world, and the owner of Death Row Records. His upcoming biopic will be the first venture by Death Row Pictures.
