NBA Player Ryan Rollins Waived by Wizards After Allegedly Shoplifting from Virginia Target

Ryan Rollins, a former player for the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors, is facing allegations of shoplifting from a Target store in Virginia on multiple occasions, according to court documents from the Alexandria General District Court. The accusations involve seven incidents between September 9 and November 9, with stolen items including groceries, body wash, and candles. Rollins has been charged with seven counts of petit larceny, classified as a Class 1 misdemeanor due to the goods' value being less than $1,000. A court hearing is scheduled for the upcoming month. Although he has not entered a plea, Rollins was on the Wizards roster when the alleged shoplifting occurred.

The 21-year-old guard was waived by the Wizards on January 8, and Hamidou Diallo has since filled his roster spot with a 10-day contract. Despite his release, Rollins has a fully guaranteed $1.7 million salary for the 2023-24 season and will earn $600,000 of his 2024-25 salary. Having played college basketball for the Toledo Rockets, Rollins declared for the 2022 NBA draft and was initially selected by the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Golden State Warriors. An early-season-ending surgery in February 2023 marked the end of his debut season with the Warriors. He was later traded to the Wizards in July 2023, playing a total of 12 games with the Warriors and ten with the Wizards.
