James Holmes was sentenced to life in prison for shooting up an Aurora, Colorado theater that killed 12 people and wounded 70 more in 2012. Many believed there was a great possibility that Holmes would get the death penalty for his crimes, but he was instead sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Holmes lawyer unsuccessfully argued that her client suffered from mental illness, and he was convicted of 24 counts of first-degree murder, two for each of the victims.
