Russell Westbrook Informs Rockets Front Office He Wants Out of Houston

Amidst the rumors of the Houston Rockets being courted by the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks in hopes of trading for Russell Westbrook, the former MVP has made sure his tenure in Houston is all but over after informing the team he wants out. Prior to The Athletic's Shams Charania reporting on Westbrook's discontent, there wasn't much chatter about whether he wanted to stay in Houston or not.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday about Harden and Westbrook having doubts about the direction of the team and those concerns have apparently devolved into Westbrook wanting to go elsewhere. "Westbrook has informed team officials that he has been uneasy about the team's accountability and culture, and wants to join a team where he can have a role similar to his prior, floor-general role in Oklahoma City," Charania reported.

Moving Westbrook will prove to be a tough task considering the soon-to-be 32-year-old is owed $131.5 million over the next three years with a $46.7 million player option in 2022-23. For what it's worth, the Rockets have since said they are "locked-in" with their roster for the upcoming season.
