Eight People Shot in Less Than Seven Hours in Chicago

Gun violence continues in Chicago with eight victims ranging from 14 to 56 years old shot in less than seven hours.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, the shootings weren't connected, although some were gang related. Between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., five people were shot including a 24-year-old who was sitting on his porch.

Around 6:40 p.m., a 14-year-old was also standing on his porch when shots rang close to his house. All victims are said to be in good condition after the incidents.

Federal statutes stepped in over Easter weekend when nine people were killed and 36 were injured in the city nicknamed "Chiraq." Crime has gone down since 2012, from 516 to 412 in 2013.

Police have urged Illinois lawmakers to create stricter gun laws. Instead, the state has sent out permits for residents to carry firearms.
