Jimmy Butler Declines 4-Year $110M Contract Extension with T'Wolves

Image
Reports surfaced two weeks ago about Jimmy Butler's frustration with a few of his Minnesota Timberwolves teammates, most notably Karl Anthony Towns, and their lack of urgency and winning mentality. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Butler "has been frustrated with the nonchalant attitudes of younger teammates—specifically Karl-Anthony Towns." It shouldn't come as a surprise then that Butler has now declined a contract extension from the organization. Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News broke the story, reporting that Butler appreciated the extension offer but thought it was more financially sound to decline and potentially score a max-deal by entering free agency in summer 2019. It's also important to note that Butler has been linked to Boston Celtics' guard Kyrie Irving with rumors of the pair potentially teaming up for the Knicks next summer. The T'Wolves are hoping that Butler is only declining the extension for strictly financial reaso

LaVar unequivocally stated that he had nothing to do with the leak and added, "I don't leak nothing. I always say what's on my mind, so you don't never see me saying, 'I think I should say this now and let it leak.' I don't do that." Carmelo Anthony and OKC Thunder to Part Ways, Team Will Save Over $100M

Image
According to reports, Carmelo Anthony and the Oklahoma City Thunder will reportedly be parting ways this summer. The parting of both parties could result in OKC saving over $100 million. Previously, Carmelo Anthony noted that the background role he ended up playing with the Thunder is not what he initially wanted. ESPN said, "The massive financial implications of Anthony opting into his $27.9 million contract for the 2018-19 season have dictated that the two sides will part ways sometime this summer." In April 2018, Melo spoke on what he wants moving forward, saying “I think for me, my focus would be on kind of figuring out what I want out of the rest of my career, what I want in my future, what am I willing to accept, if I'm willing to accept that at all. I think everybody knows that I've sacrificed kind of damned near everything -- family, moving here by myself, sacrificed my game -- for the sake of the team, and was willing to sacrifice anything and everything in

LaVar Ball Calls Rajon Rondo Lonzo's "Little Backup"

Image
LaVar Ball isn't shy about saying anything. He recently spoke with CNN's Chris Cuomo who asked him a number of questions surrounding the Lakers' big free agency move landing LeBron James. LaVar, who predicted LeBron would join Los Angeles a while back relished in his prediction coming to fruition. He also gave his take on what the team needs to do in order to dethrone the Warriors. But it was LaVar's comments about the Lakers other free agency move picking up point guard Rajon Rondo. When asked about Rondo joining the team LaVar said, "That don't mean nothing, [...] [Lonzo] Just got another teammate. Another teammate, that's all. A little backup, that's good." The "little backup" has had many people speculating that LaVar is deflecting from the potential of his son coming off the bench or worse... getting traded. But others aren't putting much stock into the comment. What are your thoughts? Check out the interview here

Michael Thompson, Toronto City Councillor said of Drake's economic significance: "I was just in New Orleans over the weekend and the reason why I was there, we were there to secure a technology conference to come to Toronto for the next three years. Image
A  Detroit rapper's career is now on hold after he used thousands of stolen credit cards to pay for a tour and recording equipment, federal agents said. According to federal documents, ShredGang Boogz, whose birth name is Albert Hill, used the stolen cards to pursue his career and wire money to himself as part of the BandGang Crew. Instead of dealing drugs, the gang steals credit cards to make millions and brag about its cash on social media. The U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, Matthew Schneider, said the credit card thefts sometimes resulted in violence. Federal agents said Hill was once shot in the face at one of his concerts in Portage, Michigan, and sometimes the violence associated with the crimes has caught innocent bystanders in the crossfire. "The rival gangs will see that and they will become upset because they are not making enough money, and then there is crossfire," Schneider said. "In fact, we had a 5-year-old girl shot in the head

Dwight Howard Reportedly Interested in Playing for the Lakers After Nets Buyout

Image
It is being reported that NBA veteran big-man Dwight Howard would be interested in gaining a roster spot on the new look Los Angeles Lakers. Howard is currently waiting for the Brooklyn Nets to buyout his contract making him a free agent after spending last season with the Charlotte Hornets. According to USA Today's Sam Amick (heard through HoopsHype's Alex Kennedy), Howard would relish the opportunity to play for the Lakers again as LeBron James now leads the squad instead of Kobe Bryant who Dwight had a shaky relationship with, at best. It's important to note, however, that the Lakers haven't explicitly expressed interest in Howard returning to the organization. But things have changed in the Lakers' front office since Dwight's departure making a potential return in the realm of possibility. Considering the seismic move that Golden State made by adding DeMarcus Cousins, the Western Conference is yet again in an arms race to compete with the defending champs.

Image
According to ESPN, Kevin Durant is set to sign a two-year deal with a player option in 2019. Durant’s deal will net him $31.5 million next year, and another $30 million in the option year. This deal shouldn’t be much of a shock, as Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers previously noted he was prepared to give Kevin Durant “whatever” he asks for in free agency. Myers went on to say “Sometimes you don't negotiate. I'd love to have him for 10 years. Kevin Durant, look what he did for us last year. He did us a great service. He's earned the right to sign whatever deal he wants. I just want him to sign a deal. But want him to be happy and want him to know that we want him as long as he wants to be here. He's earned that, to kind of lay out the terms. He can do whatever he wants.” Durant previously declined his 2018-2019 player option that was worth $26.2 million. Durant previously took $10 million less in 2017 so that Golden State could re-sign Andre Iguodala an

Google plans to enter the video game industry with a streaming service and new hardware

Image
Google wants to get into the video game industry and is working on a mysterious new service, or possibly, even an actual console of some sort. The information comes from a new report on Kotaku, citing multiple sources who claim to have been briefed by Google on the matter. According to said sources, Google's conquest of the video games industry is still in the planning stages, but with how much the search engine giant has expanded over the years, we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Google does, indeed, intend to get a piece of the video game pie. If there's a company out there, that could brute-force its way into an industry, which for close to two decades has been invariably dominated by just three brands, it's got to be Google. Rumors about Google launching a game streaming service, codenamed "Yeti", have been floating since February, but is the company ready to launch its own console Although in recent years Google has ventured into the hardware bus

AT&T reportedly set to raise DirecTV Now subscriptions by $5 a month for all plans

Image
Brian6cs@aol.com What is happening with AT&T these days? No sooner does it close on its acquisition of Time Warner, than a California assemblyman backed by the carrier added amendments to a net neutrality bill in the state assembly essentially killing the bill for now. Then came word that the carrier had closed its eyes to a scheme by managers at several AT&T retail stores. Using  questionable tactics, these managers allegedly pressured reps into signing up trial subscriptions to the Direct TV Now streaming app. Last week, the troubles continued when it was discovered that AT&T could bring an additional $800 million of revenue into its vault thanks to a monthly administrative fee that has risen suddenly from 76 cents per postpaid line to $1.99 per line. Prior to March, this fee was less than 25 cents per line! Lastly, AT&T was socked with a $5.25 million fine for a pair of nationwide 911 outages that occurred last year. Now, AT&T is reportedly raising the pricing

NFL Fines Former Carolina Panthers Owner $2.75M for Racial Misconduct

Image
Former Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was reportedly fined $2.75 million by the NFL after they conducted an investigation into claims of racial and sexual misconduct in the workplace. The investigation was conducted by former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, and it was noted the misconduct was only limited to Richardson. Along with that, the Panthers ownership failed to inform the proper channels of the allegations or come forward with any type of resolution for the issues. This comes after Richardson sold the Panthers this past December after a Sports Illustrated report surfaced saying he made sexually suggestive comments to multiple women and also fired off a racial slur at an African-American scout for the Panthers. The NFL noted the money from the fine will be placed towards organizations that tackle gender and racial issues in and out of the workplace. Source: cbsnews.com
