Dave Chappelle Explains Why He Chose Family Over Fame
Dave Chappelle recently opened up to People magazine after closing out the last night of his highly successful Radio City shows, and revealed why he left The Chappelle Show. While he's long said it was over money and clashes with creativity, the famed comedian revealed that his family was more of a priority.
"I never stopped being onstage. What I did was step off of the main stage. That kind of attention wouldn't have been conducive to raising a family."
Dave has been married to his wife Elaine for 13 years, and the couple have three children together, sons Sulayman and Ibrahim, and daughter Sonal. He also spoke about how it felt strange to not be doing comedy, which has been a constant in his life since he was a kid.
"The audience-comedian relationship is one of the more consistent relationships in my life. I started doing this at such a young age, that not doing it was alien."
Chapelle added that being back on stage "Has been a healing experience. I couldn't even tell people what it means to me. It's sincerely a pleasure to entertain."
