Teen Commits Suicide After Masturbation Video Goes Viral

A family from San Diego is mourning the loss of their 14-year-old son after he committed suicide over a video that went viral of him masturbating in a school bathroom.

According to the LA Times, Timothy and Barbara Burdette are suing the San Diego Unified School District for $1 million dollars for their son's death. The family claims that the video, and constant taunting and bullying from his classmates lead their son to kill himself. They also claimed that the school's administrators did nothing to prevent the bullying.

Matthew Burdette committed suicide in November during his Thanksgiving Break. In his note, the teen says he couldn't handle school and didn't have any friends.

The school district released a statement following the claim.

"At San Diego Unified, the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority," the statement said. "The district also adheres to the privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations related to students, families and ongoing investigations."
