Meet the Gionee M5, the first Android Lollipop smartphone with two batteries inside

Earlier this week, Gionee revealed that it would soon introduce the M5, a smartphone with not one, but two batteries - a rare sight to behold.

Running Android 5.1 Lollipop, the Gionee M5 is a mid-range smartphone with a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED display, a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of expandable storage space. The handset also has a 5 MP front-facing camera, and an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash. It measures 152 x 76 x 8.6 mm, and is pretty hefty, weighing 213 grams - but that's understandable, as two batteries can't be lightweight. Speaking of which, we sill don't know the batteries' capacities.

While the M5 is the first Lollipop handset to include two batteries, it's not the world's first smartphone to achieve this. For example, the Innos D6000 (announced at MWC 2015) also has a couple of batteries inside, but this one runs Android KitKat.

The Gionee M5 is certainly an interesting device. We'll let you know more about it when Gionee officially announces the new smartphone - which should happen soon.
