Ariana Grande released a statement giving her condolences to the victims, and those on hand to witness the terrorist attack at Manchester Arena earlier this week, in an open letter delivered via Twitter on Friday, May 26. The pop princess complimented them all on how strong they've been to be able to withstand the physical and emotional trauma that has impacted them and their families and promised to be there for them in any way she can.
"There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better. However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way," she wrote. She then went on to ask that victims not recoil, in response to the tragedy that may be difficult to understand and fully grasp or have power over. Do not be afraid, do not be divided, and do not allow hate to cloud over these times, was her message.
A couple of days after the attack, which claimed 22 lives and hospitalized 59 others, Ariana promised to pay for the funerals of the victims. In her letter, she goes on to add that she also looks forward to returning to Manchester to deliver a benefit concert in remembrance of those lives that were lost. It is an opportunity to keep people together and to raise funds for families who may be struggling to recoup from the situation.
"I don't want to go the rest of the year without being able to see and hold and uplift my fans, the same way they continue to uplift me," said Ariana. "I'll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families."
