Robert De Niro Says America Has Become a "Tragic Dumba** Comedy

Legendary actor Robert De Niro came before a crowd of college graduates over the weekend and delivered a speech that took aim at Trump's Presidency, which he called "nightmarish."
"Work for the change. Work to stop the insanity. Start now so that the Class of 2018 will graduate into a better world," De Niro told Brown University graduates, at the school's commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 28. The Ivy League school selected to honor the two-time Oscar winner with an honorary doctorate in fine arts, as an homage to his incredible body of work. For De Niro though, being granted the prestigious recognition was as much of an opportunity to engage the post-graduate generation on the state of affairs in the nation, as it was a moment to honor his contributions to film.
Long recognized as one of Hollywood's more socially conscious voices, the 73-year-old native New Yorker was sure to speak not only as an activist or a thespian, but as both, at one point conjuring an analogy in which he stated that "in movie terms" the U.S. is the story of "an inspiring uplifting drama" that has become "a tragic dumbass comedy."
