Hurricane Harvey Now Most Expensive Disaster in US History - $190 Billion
Various agencies have given different cost estimates for how much in damage they project Hurricane Harvey was responsible for, but what has remained consistent is how each new number matches or surpasses the $108 million record set by Katrina in 2005.
Most recently AccuWeather reported that experts are now envisioning the storm's damage running $190 billion out of the pockets of donors and tax payers. That is over $80 billion more than Moody Analytics calculated and what $30 billion more than what AccuWeather first imagined the damages would turn out to be earlier this week. In historical terms, it is a number that surpasses both hurricanes Katrina and Sandy combined.
With $190 billion being a full 1% of the nation's GDP, there is now talk of the Federal Reserve now postponing its next interest hike.
