Westbrook Signs Biggest Contract in NBA History, $205M Extension
The NBA's reigning MVP, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder has signed a five-year contract extension with $205 million. The contract will start with the 2018 to 2019 season and is currently the biggest guaranteed contract in NBA History. Westbrook's contract will be six seasons and $233 million through the 2022-23 season.
Westbrook signed the Designated Player Veteran Extention will allow for 35 percent of the salary cap and an additional 5 seasons. In total Russ will earn $233 million through the 2022-23 season if you include the $28 million from his 2017-18 season salary.
The Thunder confirmed the extension in a statement:
"We are extremely fortunate to have an athlete, competitor, and person such as Russell wear the Thunder uniform," Presti said. "To have him cement his legacy as a leader as we enter into our 10th season in Oklahoma City is extraordinary. I am extremely grateful to Russell, his family and to our ownership for the commitment and support that they have demonstrated in supporting our vision for the Thunder."
