Famed Physicist Stephen Hawking Dead at 76


It was announced on Wednesday, March 14 that world-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking had passed away at the age of 76. His family revealed that he passed away due to complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease that left him wheelchair-bound an unable to speak except through a voice synthesizer.
Hawking's life was portrayed in the 2014 movie The Theory of Everything, which won Eddie Redmayne an Oscar for best actor. The film was based on a memoir written by Hawking's first wife, Jane Wilde.
He was best known for his work on black holes, and he used his position as one of the most famous scientists to discuss a wide range of topics, including religion and the possibility of God, extraterrestrial life, and artificial intelligence. Hawking was also the author of one of the best selling science books of all time, A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes.
Hawking is survived by his children Lucy, Robert, and Tim.
