Prosecutors Seek 5-Year Sentence for DMX's Tax Evasion

DMX is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to not paying some $1.7 million in taxes. According to recent reports, the Manhattan prosecutors on the case are seeking a five-year bid for the hip-hop legend. Prosecutors are set to recommend that X serve a four-year nine-month to five-year sentence for what they dub as "brazen" crimes. Court documents containing the prosecution's recommendation state, “use this sentencing to send the message to this defendant and others that star power does not entitle someone to a free pass, and individuals cannot shirk the duty to pay their fair share of taxes."
DMX's lawyer Murray Richman is looking for probation and drug treatment for the rapper, which would allow him to perform in order to pay back his debt. Richman was quoted, “They wish to make an example of him just before tax season just as they always do,” adding, “Take a man who comes from the ghetto and expect him to understand the implications of doing taxes when he’s an entertainer.”
