TN Lawmakers Introduce Bill That Would Allow Fathers to Prevent Abortion
Tennessee Sen. Mark Pody (R-Lebanon) and Rep. Jerry Sexton (R-Bean Station) introduced a bill that would allow fathers of unborn children to file a court injunction and prevent the mother from getting an abortion. House Bill 1079, as it's officially known, was passed on first consideration Thursday (February 11).
Both parties can present evidence fourteen days after the petition is filed, and the motion to stop the abortion would be decided at a court hearing. The bill also states that the person seeking to stop the abortion doesn't need to prove that he is the biological father of the child via a DNA test.
Violating the injunction would result in the court holding the mother in civil or criminal contempt and "punish the respondent in accordance with the law."
