Utah Governor Signs Bill Requiring Cell Phones Sold in State Have Porn Filters
According to reports, Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed a controversial bill into law on Tuesday requiring cell phones and tablets sold in the state to come equipped with porn blocking filters.
The bill has gained support from those who believe this is a preventative measure to help parents monitor what type of content their children can engage online. On the flip side, this bill does much to infringe upon people's First Amendment rights. To get around those sticky constitutional issues, Rep. Susan Pulishper, the bill's co-sponsor, said that parents could elect to deactivate the filter.
The Michigan-based group behind the legislation just passed in Utah is currently working toward getting similar legislation passed in its home state.
