Woman Who Recorded Herself Sexually Abusing Dying Boyfriend Gets 16 Years

Virginia woman Megan Anne Walthall, 32, was sentenced to 16 years after she videotaped herself sexually abusing her boyfriend while he was dying from a heroin overdose in 2019. She previously pleaded guilty to abusing an incapacitated adult, sexual battery, and two counts of possessing illegal drugs.

On July 15, 2019, Walthall called 911 to report that her boyfriend, Brandon Dye, was unresponsive. He was later taken to a local hospital where he died, and when police searched their home, they uncovered drugs, paraphernalia, and a video Walthall recorded as Dye laid dying.

The video showed Walthall laughing as she sexually abused Dye. It also showed that she waited at least 45 minutes before calling 911. An emergency room physician testified that Dye might've survived if he was received immediate treatment.

Walthall claims she made the video to show Dye in hopes that it would lead him to stop using if he saw it later. Defense attorney Price Koch stated that it "It was done stupidly and wrongly," but adds that "there was no malice." Prosecutor Sandra Park disagreed, stating that the "level of depravity" in the video warranted years in prison.

Walthall was also sentenced for a second drug conviction in December 2019, where another man suffered an overdose. After the man survived the overdose, he told police he'd gotten drugs from Walthall and used them with her. Court records show that Walthall delayed calling 911 during that incident as well, as Walthall told a friend, who later called the victim's father before someone called 911 for help. Walthall admitted that she hit the heroin and needle in another motel room before police arrived.
